Drums played an important part in the history of African Americans. Fenix presents an interactive drum concert with a variety of drums from West Africa, the Americas and the Caribbean. Drums include congas, steeldrums and djembes.

Lansana Kouyate comes from a traditional griot family and can trace his family tree back over 800 years. After many years of international performances he has settled in Chico, California where he teaches drumming and balafon. We are very pleased to have him come teach and give in insight into traditional West African music.
